Interdisciplinary Research Teams

RAKMHSU has established four interdisciplinary research teams aligned with its medical mission and bibliometric research profile. Each team bridges Medical and Health Sciences with a complementary scientific domain, creating structured pathways for cross-disciplinary collaboration, joint publication, and translational impact.

Team 1 – Medical & Life Sciences Research Team

Objective To generate high-impact translational research bridging clinical medicine with molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology, pharmacology, and life sciences. This team leverages TMRC and CARF infrastructure to convert bench discoveries into evidence-based clinical applications, with focus areas including oncology, infectious disease, metabolic disorders, drug repurposing, and nanomedicine.
Research Areas Translational oncology, antimicrobial resistance, immunotherapy, nanoparticle drug delivery, pharmacogenomics, disease biomarker discovery, and in vivo validation of novel therapeutics.

Team 2 – Medical‑Engineering & Physical Sciences Research Team

Objective To develop innovative biomedical solutions by integrating engineering principles, physical sciences, and analytical chemistry with clinical and pharmaceutical research. This team drives medical device innovation, nanopharmaceutical formulation, advanced diagnostic technologies, and evidence-based materials science applications within RAKMHSU's TMRC infrastructure.
Research Areas Biomedical engineering, nanomedicine, medical imaging technology, pharmaceutical formulation chemistry, biosensor development, drug stability and analytical testing, wearable health monitoring systems, and biomaterials for clinical applications.

Team 3 – Medical‑Computer Science & AI Research Team

Objective To harness artificial intelligence, machine learning, and health informatics to transform clinical data into actionable medical insights. This team develops AI-assisted diagnostic tools, predictive health models, clinical decision-support systems, and digital health platforms that enhance patient outcomes and operational efficiency across RAKMHSU's affiliated hospitals.
Research Areas AI-assisted medical imaging and pathology, electronic health record analytics, natural language processing for clinical documentation, predictive modelling for chronic disease, telemedicine systems, bioinformatics, and machine learning applications in pharmacogenomics.

Team 4 – Medical‑Social & Health Education Sciences Research Team

Objective To embed social and behavioural sciences, public health, and health professions education within RAKMHSU's clinical research framework. This team investigates the human, community, and educational dimensions of healthcare, producing interdisciplinary research that informs patient-centred care, health policy, workforce development, and clinical training excellence in the UAE.
Research Areas Patient adherence and health behaviour, public health epidemiology, social determinants of health, health professions education, simulation-based clinical training, mental health integration in primary care, community medicine, and interprofessional education research.
